@Cloudie on the phone placing an order for 20, circa 2023

Before you get too excited, let's start off with the cons of these dedicated servers (compared to our normal enterprise offerings):

  • No KVM/console access
  • PXE actions are still a little buggy, so all orders require a manual staff member approval initially to make sure you're being delivered a properly deployed OS
  • You're welcome to reinstall via our control panel afterwards if you want to, but it sometimes requires an abort and retry (or two)
  • No redundant power supplies
  • No customization, what you see is what you get

Understanding the above will be crucial for expectation setting. While we actively have some upgrade work going on behind the scenes to help with making the PXE re-deployment smoother, the ETA on that is still 5-14 days out. That being said, I'm personally excited to get some feedback on these and figure LES members will be excited to get a recurring discount on something I don't think we'll ever discount again moving forward.

The good:
* $45 $38/mo w/code: IKNOWWHATIMBUYING
* i5-10500T (6c/12t) up to 3.8GHz
* 32GB DDR4
* 1TB NVMe
* 1Gbps Unmetered
* Direct Order Link

    Very nice offer, any VPS offers coming soon?

    Will make a final decision on that with the team tomorrow--but any requests? Had something unique prepared for another LES exclusive, but I haven't decided if it is for sure yet.

    They have IPv6 available, we just have to assign them on request for the moment.

    iGPU is included, this is bare metal.

    If it's not too much - some limited stock annual deals under $20?

    At the moment, no. We do have some portable KVMs that were likely going to be dedicated to these--but sort of weighing out the options on them.

    Precisely what was discussed and prepared. Probably closer to ~$17/yr limited deals that won't go up on the website.

    You did not. It's on pause for a day or three--forgot we had something staged already with OGF. It'll be slightly better when it goes up here anyways.

    Don't think LES will get left out. Not only will you not get left out, but I'll be able to subtract $200 right off the top and pass it along (regarding the ogf yearly bonanza). You might even be blessed in missing out on all the shenanigans after the deal was invaded by hostloc & co =)

  • I'm 100% in for one if/when they restock.

  • Curious... based on the hardware specs and the caveats, are these 1L business desktops? I've always wanted to toy with the idea of deploying them in a datacenter at some point.

    Yes, these are rack mounted HP Elite Mini's with a few small customizations and a specialized software stack to allow some basic 'ipmi' functionality for the end user. I'll share some pics of how they're racked, and depending on a few things we might publicly release our 'ipmi bridge' down the road too.

  • That'll be nice. We need an alternative to PiKVM.

    At the moment it's not full 1:1 functionality, mainly because intel vpro/amt just generally sucks. At least some of the important things work but I don't think an actual console will ever be possible. Even with MeshCommander locally it usually doesn't work, or only runs a legitimate serial console that doesn't display 50% of the characters.

    It's been a hot minute since I got the console part to work on Intel AMT, but I do remember that with that you need to have either a monitor or an HDMI dummy plug installed, otherwise the kvm part always shows a black screen. It seemed to work ok after that
