The question is in the title. Do you like it?

url: https://casaos.zimaspace.com/

Are there any alternatives?

I like their self-hosted app store:

    I found https://umbrel.com/, but per Reddit that's a commercial version and it's not open-source.

  • I'm running Casa on a Rock5C at the moment, main reason was the for the AppStore/docker-compose environment - I like to have an easy to use interface for quickly testing out or trying docker applications prior to deploying them in a production or standalone environment and it makes it a bit simpler to do so.

Plus it has a pretty nice dashboard bundled in and you can also also add 3rd party repositories to the AppStore which broadens the selection way more.

  • I did not test CasaOS yet, will do when I will find the time.

Seems like their umbrelOS is open source according to the site and they also link to their github
    https://github.com/getumbrel/umbrel

"umbrelOS is licensed under the PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 license. TL;DR — You're free to use, fork, modify, and redistribute Umbrel for personal and nonprofit use under the same license"

I remember umbrel being really popular among people hosting their own crypto nodes and other privacy software. Should be good.

From what I remember its just a fancy frontend to Docker containers.

Another one to consider is Cosmos-Cloud. You can integrate the CasaOS apps and others into the cosmos app store (market, whatever) by just adding it as a source. Pretty legit and fairly new considering some of the alternatives. The only thing behind a paywall is some VPN setup that allows you to tunnel to the server, but there are apps that offer that already. I haven't delved that deeply into it, but it's worth taking a look at.

@slownedstark this looks much better, thx

  • Happy to use CasaOS (more than 1 year) for my Jellyfin server (3 vCPU, 4.5 GB RAM, 125 GB SSD), running with SSL subdomain (Cloudflared) and connected to another storage server (1 TB HDD) with Samba and MyVestaCP ✔️

    You can't unsee it now.

  • CasaOS is so niceee, been using for 1 years +++, it is nice that you can run your own container normal way with YAML not limited to their stores apps

  • just found accidentally...if you install aapnel...you get almost all of these images in their docker section too.

i thought of installing this in a vps where i have aapanel already
and installed this using installation script but IP:81 is not opening so i opened aapanel docker section to see if docker is running or not...but found similar apps...i thought may be aapanel auto imported casaos so showing all those...

but now installed aapnel in another vps and went to docker section and it has all those scripts too.

    nice finding actually...

    @TheDP someone say drugs?

  • i started using this and worked well for 3-4days

now for last couple of days, it refuse to open casa dashboard
all other docker images working fine.

but if i want to stop/restart those docker images, i need casa dashboard.
best feature i like are file manager and terminal access within dashboard.

  • I am using Unraid and I am really happy with it.

How easy is casa to set up? Tempted to use it to explore apps fast...and then deploy them on k3s/docker

    It's a one-liner wget -qO- https://get.casaos.io | sudo bash

very easy and usage is also breeze
but look at my issue i said above.
after few days, its panel is not opening...i changed ports, restarted casa service, even server...same issue.
on good side, since it is seperated from launched docker images, they run properly without any problems.
