I learnt today that the cost value of renting additional 10 GB of SSD and 1 cpu core can be as low as as 1 Dollar and 64 cents per year. (or even lower with a working coupon)

    offers

There was also a set of offers yesterday with identical specs and location, except that one had an additional 2TB of BW and cost $0.15 more.

It's interesting to see what VirBot comes up with.

But if VirBot always followed a set pattern of rules where would be the fun in that ?

Yo @VirMach , it is rather amazing, that your business did not go deadpool.
I am back from the 1 year exile on this arousing occasion.
I live in Waterloo, ON now; approximately 2 hours drive to Buffalo.

I still hold the grudge for you expelled me out of Tokyo

You may remain in Tokyo until final service date of 11/27/2024. Please don't forget to keep the cancellation request in place. If service renews past final service date, you may be migrated away from Tokyo without any further notice.

    Why am I being migrated?
In our attempt at continuing providing services in Tokyo, we have to make some adjustments to bring usage levels in Tokyo to be more similar to other locations. Currently, Tokyo location servers are facing a higher memory demand than originally calculated/anticipated, and to avoid scenarios where this could become problematic, we must move away a select small quantity of services with high memory and/or swap usage. Approximately 5% of customers in Tokyo are receiving this message. We do apologize for the inconvenience, but we believe this decision will improve the quality of service for the other 95% of customers in the Tokyo location and it will allow us to continue providing services in the Tokyo location.

TL;DR version: Clear the large spec VPS for future (over)sells

It is/was the code for Sunday. I think @VirMach mentioned last night that the codes were set to PST, but it's possible he changed it to a different timezone? It's still Sunday in PST, but Monday in EST.

FWIW, there is now another code for 10% recurring on anything: 999R10ALL50XIPR.

@VirMach - Meh, speed is not as fast as last year's Ryzen:

    Last year:

     ## Geekbench v5 CPU Benchmark:

      Single Core : 1461 (EXCELLENT)
       Multi Core : 1387

    This year NYC Metro Ryzen:

    ## Geekbench v5 CPU Benchmark:

Single Core : 897 (VERY GOOD)
       Multi Core : 956

    ...nothing to write home about

  • @mockingbird Did you run the test shortly after getting that VM?

  • @animeiscool said:

No, I did a clean install of Debian 12 and then ran it... SJC and CHI Ryzens are faster in Geekbench 5 and in RAM thoroughput. SJC less so, but still a significant amount.
