@AuroraZero said: New fetish? I don't get this many emails from the Nigerian Prince let alone you usually.

Well honestly that was one of the hardest e-mails I sent out for a long time.

I know some people won’t care about the reasoning, and that’s fine, everyone is free to make their own decision.

But the timeline is clear and final, no delays or other on that matter.

    30 April 2026 is the end-of-life date.
On 01 May 2026, the services will be powered off and the rack will be returned to the datacenter as agreed.

I can go into detailed numbers and specifics, but most people won't give 7$ dime, so, it is what it is.

I hear ya man I recently had to discontinue Japan because of upstream disappearance. It kills me to have to do it but, unless I can find reliable upstreams there is no sense in duck waddling.

    Just received this email:

    Dear Customer,

We’re writing to inform you about an upcoming change to the lifecycle timeline of your service.

Due to recent and significant increases in hardware replacement costs, maintaining this specific legacy product line beyond its current lifecycle has become unsustainable and is now posing an operational risk. To avoid unexpected disruptions and to operate responsibly under current market conditions, we need to adjust the previously announced end-of-life date.

    What’s changing

The original planned end-of-life date was April 2027
The updated end-of-life date is now 30 April 2026

Customers whose current billing period extends beyond 30 April 2026 will receive a pro-rated refund for any remaining unused service time from 30 April 2026 until the original contract end date.

    Transition details

To ensure a smooth and predictable transition:

Your service will be allowed to renew one final time on a monthly billing cycle only, regardless of any previous yearly payment terms.
After this final monthly period, the service will be gracefully terminated.
No further renewals will be possible beyond that point.

Customers who do not wish to continue until the end-of-life date may cancel the service at any time from the client area, and it will not renew again.

    What this means for you

This change gives you time to:

        plan a migration,
        move data or services elsewhere,
or reach out to us if you need temporary assistance during the transition.

We understand that changes like this are never ideal. This decision was made with careful consideration, as we believe it is better to responsibly retire certain services than to risk a situation where they can no longer be properly maintained.

Optional migration path (for Pioneer 5TB customers)

For customers who wish to continue with us beyond the end-of-life date, we offer an optional migration to our current-generation Xeon Scalable Gen 2 platform under current terms and pricing.

    PX-1C2R5T – Storage 5TB (Xeon Scalable Gen 2)

1 vCPU (Xeon Scalable Gen 2)
        2 GB DDR4 RAM
        20 GB NVMe (OS disk)
        5 TB HDD storage add-on (RAID60)
        4K IOPS @ 1.5K, up to 1 GB/s RW
        1× Dedicated IPv4
IPv6 /64 available upon request via ticket
        1 Gbps port (best effort)
        18 TB included traffic

    Pricing:

        $33 / quarter
        $60 / semi-annual (discounted billing option)

Please note: this migration option represents a new service on a different platform and is not a continuation of the legacy product. Migration is entirely optional, and customers are free to choose the solution that best fits their needs.

If you have any questions or need clarification regarding your specific service, billing, refunds, or the migration option, our support team is available and happy to help.

Thank you for your understanding and for being a valued customer, regardless of the option you choose.

    Kind regards,

    HOST-C Support Team

    @remy

no, new price is for today list prices minus a big discount.

    That is a new product.

You have there 2.2 USD / TB. all that for a raid 60 Platform and Xeon Scale Gen CPU.

Same math went to the Nimitz 10TB, but there there is a monthly payment option to as the value is higher.

Both of them have a discount on the semi-annual payment.

Yes but if i'm not mistaken it was initially $45/year. We are talking about $120 / year now.
not saying it's a bad deal, but that's still a pretty big gap.
I mean, cpu does not matter much for most people for storage instance.

Anyway, I don’t have this VPS anymore. It was reliable while it lasted. :)

Got the email too. It's understandable, but unfortunate.

I was hoping to ride it out for the year, hoping the hardware situation would stabilize.

    It's pronounced hacker.

So did we sincerely, yet, the $$ for RAM and some DRIVES last week made me reconsider. It is too much of a gamble from my point of view, we have too many customers to "risk" this, it would not be very wise from where I am standing. I also aspect another energy price hike in the coming moths.

True to for most, untrue for us, as 12 bays will not do what 24 do IO wise, there is a limit to witch I can push those nodes. Also, their efficiency is of 2015.

Fully populated E5-V4 they max out ~430W
Scale Gen 2 on the worst day ~740W, 640W average.

2xR730XD = 4U so i can have the same capacity to sell as a R740xd2
1xR740XD = 2U - also, here i can have 3x8 drive setup in raid 60 that makes a ton of sense technically when you use 18+ TB drives. ( rebuild times )

And a lot more, CPU BW is 2x of E5-V4, and I can go all day with this.

One more aspect was the renewal price asked for the rack housing the E5-V4, that was, ~x2
DDR4 is not cheap for the past moths, ain't seeing a decline soon, and even if so, not to what it was in early 2025 for the moment.
    DRIVES, well, same issue

All the above in the mix, well, NO.

If RAM and DRIVES would remained at the end 2024 early 2025, I would had no issues to subsides them till April 2027, with the new variables..... well, nop. ( and none of you would )

    Thanked by (1)remy

  • So this is only for those with Pioneer and Nimitz that did not take the upgrade offer last year right? Those that upgraded would not have any changes right?

Nice. I see my plan is Pioneer XNova and it does not have any changes.

If anyone wishes to take the new offer, just reply via ticket and we’ll take care of the migration from our side.

Also, I see a lot of people suddenly discovered the July and August 2025 offer 😅- now you woken up, nice. :D , fine, but 8 moths too late.

Just to clarify: that promo ended in 2025 and can’t be provisioned anymore. ( SkyCluster XNova, Pioneer XNova and Nimitz CVN-68 )

    Today options are:

    For the Pioneer -> PX-1C2R5T - Storage 5TB
    For the Nimitz -> PX-2C4R10T - Storage 10TB

    And that is it.
