Certainly with Proxmox, I've found the qemu-guest-agent useful for shutting down a hung VM, also it reports back the assigned/active IP(s) to the node.

Thanks for the post @Ympker .. That was a joyous experience, not. Took ages to install, then more time to attempt to load than Linux takes to boot up. Culminated in Windoze wanting to send a crash report! Tried a reboot, 'cos it's Windows - same end…
