Catch-22. Redis requires a lot of RAM to get any real benefit, IME. I removed it from my NVMe setup, as it was making a negligible performance improvement but swallowed up RAM. MySQL cache can make substantial improvements and easily offset losing r…

I would appear that 8GB RAM will suffice, for now, especially if you do tuning. You should also monitor I/O though, to ensure the server isn't disc bound, if using SAS.

(Quote) Ain't that the truth. ;)

^ Well, sorry that's a crap Windoze luser viewpoint. Linux memory usage is entirely different and 8GB will very likely be sufficient. For some reason your (munin?) graph isn't showing committed RAM, which is a better indicator but your in RAM apps u…

Though I hate markdown, the natural pairing of TinyCP and PicoCMS is super lightweight - minimal bloat.

@jamesmd The blogs were interesting until I came across this: "I was unable to continue the repairs on the boards with failed Ethernet due to waiting on solder wick to arrive however I found some in a draw! " What a lucky draw? Grr. The wo…

Have been using basic Nextcloud for remote backups for quite some time - 4 servers, using webDAV/rsync. Couldn't resist this offer. :) It'll be interesting to compare performance etc. Uploading ISOs (yes, really) 297MB of 17GB 5 hours left, using Nex…

Enjoy the bugs and regressions in R1Soft CDP. (I battled with developers for months, before deciding it wasn't worth the effort.) :#

I still have the original one, stashed/languishing behind the TV. It has heat sinks, bridged USB diodes (IIRC) and a clear case - reminds me of Orac, post 'stabilised atomic implosion'. ;)

Ahh, but will it run aspiscp with Magento? :#

A wee glitch this morning. I had to restart installation due the VM locking up - second attempt worked but with a couple of 'pauses'. On configuring ssh, it became apparent that there were a lot of ssh login attempts. Once a panel (CWP) was installe…

Great bit of negotiating there - thanks @gleert ! :) (Got an older model.)

@gleert Waiting for the UK VAT situation to be clarified. ;)

Should UK buyers still be paying VAT, after 1st January?

(Quote) Yup, I'd assume so (also the case with many/most control panels) mysqltuner.pl / tuning-primer.sh are your friends. Make your life easier by creating a soft link to your php.ini for tweaking eg. (Quote) Or wherever it is; then you can just …

(Quote) I mentioned this: (Quote) IIRC, it's expected you access via OpenVPN, which is included as an option. I haven't bothered (yet).

(Quote) Sounds remarkably like some control panels. ;)

The problem is with association: Coloncrossing==scammers. I have a number of Virmach VPS which are CC, though Virmach appear to be well established and manage to wade through the bad press (more or less). As a starting point for a newly expanding bu…

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of ClassicPress - very interesting. :)

Feck, I read it all to the bottom! Merry Christmas too, everyone.
