The end result looks great! I was a little surprised that it's over 7,000 (!) lines of code, but there are extensive comments, so those add up. Cool idea :)

(Quote) Surprised no one mentioned using Ansible...

(Quote) I tried looking at their history on the internet archive to find clear evidence, and it's excluded. Seems suspicious. (Image)

Thanks for the recap. I tried looking at the incident from April that you linked but it now returns a 404. That's not a good look for transparency. https://status.filen.io/incident/544157

(Quote) You can use RustDesk with their relay servers. Self-hosting your own relay servers is completely optional.

Thanks for the heads up!

(Quote) You were smart to get an account when you did. According to their docs, they no longer offer a free plan :/

(Quote) Agreed, each client machine has its own key pair and the private key never leaves that machine.

Looks like a decent server. How old are the hard drives? Any reasons for getting rid of it?

(Quote) On a previous renewal the invoice was higher than $7.99. I had to ask customer service about it and they apologized and lowered it. I've barely dealt with them other than that, so I can't say if it was intentional or not.

(Quote) $7.99

(Quote) There are cheaper options. I'm using Planethoster for a .pw and there have been some minor hiccups, but it's cheap.

(Quote) Thanks for asking this. Just yesterday I was just looking for a good solution with almost the exact same requirements!

(Quote) I was expecting something much rougher, but the UI looked good to me, especially the modals. What UI / CSS framework did you use?

(Quote) That's an excellent point, they're definitely less hassle. I wonder how long some of these providers will last, but I guess migrating from one to another (especially if they support rclone) isn't any more work than maintaining servers. I've…

(Quote) I've been deliberating whether to use cloud providers vs self-hosting. Here's what I have. * Koofr 100 GB lifetime * Filen 100 GB lifetime * Mega 400 GB annual * Syncthing with Filebrowser 4 TB across 3 dedicated servers * Synology (on Tail…

(Quote) I kept the 10 GB with my lifetime deal for 110 GB total.
-
Just a note that Koofr's lifetime deals don't stack. I already have a 100 GB lifetime on my account, but if I went for the 250 GB plan, I'd just have 250 GB of storage, unless I create a separate account.

(Quote) Absolutely true. In the case of 2FA, I'm willing to pay the cost to get what I consider to be significant benefit.
-
I use it everywhere I can. The more protection the better, especially with all of the data breaches. Of course, if the 2FA secret is stored with the user data, it may not help.

+1 for Amazon SES. I've been using them to send 10K+ emails a month to a double opt-in list and deliverability has been great. Open rates are even better than I was using Mailchimp, for a fraction of the price.

(Quote) Veracrypt has a portable version which I store in the same cloud storage as the encrypted drive, so it gets backed up too. Thus decrypting 20 years later should be simple. I would be concerned if an app required any external dependencies li…

I've come across a few complaints from lifetime pCloud users saying their accounts were closed due to having copyrighted content, which the users denied having. I have no idea if it's accurate or not, but it made me hesitate. I too have a lifetime K…

I still use Veracrypt, but have been thinking about switching to Cryptomator. I tried Cryptomator a few weeks ago and it worked well, but for some reason I prefer Veracrypt. Probably just familiarity and stability, since I've been using it (or TrueC…

+1 to RSS all the things. I too use FreshRSS and try to centralize as much as I can, but I've not found a good solution for RSS feeds that require a login other than basic auth, which works perfectly in FreshRSS.

(Quote) I've heard good things about it from people who use it but I don't have firsthand experience.
