Thanks @jcn50 Agreed about support - Proxmox can seem intimidating when you first use it ;) As far as different package sizes - I think everyone would just choose the largest so we need some restriction. I suppose it all depends what you are deve…

@stxsh Thanks for your support / comments. I am talking about nested virtualization so developers can run what they wish. Understand Proxmox 'complexity' but it is very flexible with VNC, snapshots, backups etc. So would a developer prefer a gui dr…

(Quote) Yep that pretty much sums up the story. But how can you read this thread - it is 423 pages so far and you are supposed to be developing stuff !!! I would hope that many users will switch to using your service if not for the short but longer …

(Quote) Sorry I disagree - This is free and I / we have no interest in your data other than to email VM details or important updates. Fair point about Cloudflare although NAT is working very well with port forwards. Agreed about snapshots but I woul…

@yoursunny Great points thanks. Ephemeral. Could disappear at any moment! Clueless™ Administrator! :) Ephemeral is more to do with the donors than us - we will be around. I think ephemeral should go. As far a Clueless™ Administrator! that was Tom…

Been having some 'internal' discussions and interested in your views. * Is trust an issue when registering with us (we want your email address) or do you consider paying a business more trustworthy? * Is a static IPv4 really important - we provide …

(Quote) Thank you, I was not aware of the background. FOSSVPS may have stricter rules but it is working and we have around 50+ users (and growing). The automation, registration, authorisation and provisioning is working and uses bash so easy to port…

(Quote) It was not even intended to have a title just like yours, last time i checked a title cannot be copyrighted? Are you just trying to be annoying - who cares about a title / copyright. You knew what we were doing, you even said we were one o…
-
(Quote) Yes it was the point. I had no knowledge that you had done the same and something done three years ago is certainly different to a post with almost the same title on the same front page. If I had known of you and your efforts I would have as…

(Quote) I did not - Tom setup FOSSVPS.

It would have made more sense to discuss first. We have the necessary software for checking, authorising and building vms which I am sure you would find beneficial and I would have been very happy to share and collaborate on. As I said, I am disapp…
-
Well that does not sound like the spirit of Open Source. Collaborate and improve, branch if not evolving the way you like. I wish you well but I am disappointed.
-
(Quote) Does that mean we are not doing things right? Why not just collaborate?
-
We are doing it as well, you almost used exactly the same title !!!

We genuinely want to support the community, so want to hear your views as to what we could be doing better. This is a great opportunity for anyone not experienced with IPv6 to start playing. Don't worry you still have NAT IPv4 so have access to the…

I am happy to say another one cancelled today. I know it sounds strange (happy) but cancelling means less future hassle.

(Quote) Just like jumping off a cliff - you don't feel a thing........

(Quote) Although it is best of luck for virmach - money for nothing !!! Hope you get your service back but don't hold your breath......

Wow this is clever logic - I have been suspended for a service I had cancelled months ago with confirmations etc etc. Service should have cancelled automatically at end of period (yesterday). (Image)

With @VirMach it has always been 'rinse and repeat'. He has gone 'offline' before and comes back with great deals and many problems. The way things are going, it appears that so many are cancelling so keeping the lights on will get harder. I thin…

@loay Well done, these are the sorts of projects FOSSVPS is happy to support. Drop me a PM if you would like a free VPS to help with your work. Mike

(Quote) That is because @VirMach has not touched them ;)

Hmm - reading up on S3 (please correct me if I am wrong) it uses http/s. So providing that sort of service would mean we were hosting and serving potentially dodgy stuff - no thank you. edit - typo
-
@havoc I find sshfs simple to use, install on client, setup keys and mount. i always found S3 (perhaps because I was using AWS) setup awkward and a bit slow. However i am prepared to implement solutions if that is what the Open source community want…

@tetech (Quote) @somik Don't mind considering some type of s3 or rsync type access, but definitely not https because of what could be hosted (abused).

Agreed. https://status.fossvps.org

Things are progressing.... You can now check the status of the nodes (using hetrix tools) at status.fossvps.org Still plenty of 'availability' for a free VPS if you are an Open Source developer, just send me a PM. Choose between Bucharest, Moldova…

I mean what Proxmox tells me ;)

Well that was quite a day... Just to give you a brief outline of what was going on. Alexhost generously donated one of their dedicated servers to FOSSVPS in Chisinau (Moldova). It has 40 x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2680 v2 @ 2.80GHz (2 Sockets), 2…

UPDATE Chisinau (now called mol1) rebuild is going through some final tests, much faster than expected with big thanks to Alexhost Emails will be sent to all that completed our registration form. The standard configuration is dual stack NAT + IPv…

@Not_Oles Yes, I am using Realvnc and for spice, I just download the credentials and run virt-viewer in the chromebook cli. I needed to do some video editing so used a cloud VM. Vnc does not support remote audio so I used spice which worked very wel…

All my work is done on a chromebook (developer mode). ssh works great and if I need graphics, spice or VNC works perfectly. Majority of my work is cli based so as long as I have ssh and a browser it is job done. Been using this method for at least 1…

Just spun up an Alpine Vm in 128MiB works perfectly. Alpine as an lxc 64MiB is fine. Just use one VM for one purpose - job done.
-
7 VMs cancelled so far and will continue reducing. @bakageta I admire your stamina, but once you perfect a strategy for a downed VM, then what is the point of purchasing more VMs that will go down.
-
PM's sent to LES clients on Chisinau, if I have missed anyone please PM me. There is a lot going on..... Mike

(Quote) Happy to provide that on our UK or Bucharest servers but it would currently be NAT and IPv6 with 64GiB hdd Latest Debian 13, Ubuntu 24.04 or Alpine 3.22 Sorry no US. Just drop me a PM.
