Any Minecraft or Palworld fans here? How well does the Mac mini M6 perform as a game server?
I finally wrapped up all my work and got that damn software refactor from hell out of the way. After more than six months of being buried in work and overtime, I finally have some free time to myself again!
I've been thinking about setting up a new Minecraft server and a Palworld server. And with the Mac mini M6 having just launched, I'm really curious how it performs as a game server, especially considering its supposedly class-leading single-core performance. Both Minecraft and Palworld are pretty demanding when it comes to single-threaded performance, so it seems like a great match on paper.
From what I've seen while lurking around various forums lately, the M6 seems to absolutely smoke the Ryzen 9 9950X when it comes to technical Minecraft servers, especially redstone-heavy setups and large-scale farms.
However, there's still very little information out there about running heavily modded Minecraft servers on it. And of course, Apple charges an arm and a leg for RAM, which makes running a server for a larger group of players pretty painful for the wallet.
So I'm wondering if anyone here has actually tried hosting a modded Minecraft server on the M6, especially something as massive as All the Mods 10 (ATM10).
How many concurrent players can the 16GB and 24GB M6 models realistically handle with ATM10? And what kind of TPS and MSPT can you expect once the server reaches the late game, with lots of machines, automation, and loaded chunks?
I've searched pretty much every corner of the internet and still haven't found any solid benchmarks or real-world numbers for this.
As for Palworld, information is even harder to come by. I've barely found anything beyond a few passing mentions here and there.
I'd really love to hear from anyone who's actually tried either of these on an M6 Mac mini. Any real-world experience, benchmarks, or performance numbers would be greatly appreciated!
