Anyone seen any invoices or payment confirmations from people who paid one of these deadpooled companies? that may provide some sort of clue?

I have a few paid invoices from my shameful moments of weakness, what details would help

Just the details of who you paid, like sometimes when you buy from a host e.g. iwstack, you get a payment confirmation from PayPal with the Italian company name not iwstack.

    That's a virtual address: https://www.intelligentoffice.com/virtual-office-services/oro-valley

All of the IP addresses I've checked in ARIN (i.e. those assigned to SnowVPS) have different (fake) names and addresses unfortunately. It's a semi-professional scam operation, it's just rinse and repeat really.

AnthonySmith said: Maybe it is me who needs the reality check, i thought I already had had one to be honest but maybe not.

Maybe it is others that don't realize (or don't care) that every page load you do over there adds to their stats, which in turn makes them a appear to be viable market place.

You're right and I have worded it no different on https://lowenddeadpool.info/. But frankly, there's people in this world you just can't help. If visitors of LEB/LET keep falling in the same trap over and over again, despite the many threads over at LET, HostBalls and LES; it's just one of those that can't be helped.

However at some stage at some point in the chain, someone is allowing that to happen, that is the spot to apply pressure, even if it does nothing but increase diligence in the future.

What IP range was snowvps using?

    SnowVPS:
    107.175.91.0/24 - https://ipinfo.io/AS36352/107.175.91.0/24

    SupremeVPS
    172.245.68.0/24 - https://ipinfo.io/AS36352/172.245.68.0/24

There's probably more - just don't have time on my hands currently. As for retrieving payment details, since their WHCMS installs are still up - why not just add a domain to your cart and go through the process (without paying of course)? SnowVPS seems to be using FastSpring so maybe it'd help to get them involved too.

I am more interested in the payment gateway confirmation rather than the invoice from a billing system they control, e.g. I just paid my softaculous license, from buycpanel and the paypal confirmation states:

    Merchant
    cPanel, LLC dba BuycPanel
    [email protected]

Gotcha. But they seem to be going through a gateway instead of directly through PayPal (that gateway being FastSpring). That's why I mentioned it might help to get them (the gateway) involved, i.e. they might be able to issue charge-backs to all affected customers and go after the scam artist(s), holding them accountable for their losses.

    Got it with keyword fastspring

  • InceptionHostingInceptionHosting Hosting ProviderOG

So let me get this straight.

If i use fast spring to process my payments, you never get any information as to who you are actually buying from during the transaction?

    That does not seem legal.

I believe I may need to update the rules to exclude hosts using fastspring if that is the case.

Yes but you need to know who you are paying ultimately i.e. the benefactor

That information should be on the invoice. The only legal EU restriction I'm aware of is that the name of the vendor has to show up on your bank statement. But no addresses or anything else has to be included in the payment information.

That said, I think Wishosting is / was using 2checkout and as a result doesn't show any information on the payment either.

I just checked my payment I made to virtualizor via 2checkout.

It has full benefactor including softaculous parent company details on the payment confirmation.

So I am still finding it hard to believe that fastspring don't give any access to that info.

  • It's through the PayPal payments that I discovered SkyNetHosting is BookServices and another name, which I don't recall. A payment processor that hides that information, should be banned, IMO.

This is what I've seen with other payment processors also, and AFAIK it's precisely why PayPal doesn't allow "full integration" from a payment processor and all the payments need to go directly to the recipient's account.

Which means that either Fastspring got a deal not available to other payment processors, or they're breaking PayPal ToS themselves.

I have been reading up on them, if I had to guess I would say it is because they are taking full tax and payment liability where as 2checkout do not.

handy for small shops wanting to not have to get involved in international tax regulation but sell a few bits online, also handy for people that want to hide.

    not good.

AFAIK PayPal doesn't allow this under those circumstances either. I looked into this a bit while trying to set up my payment processing (through Mollie, a Dutch payment processor), and even though Mollie takes on the ultimate liability for all other payment methods (including CC processing!), they couldn't tightly integrate PayPal because PayPal wouldn't let them. It was a bit of a pain to set up in the end.
