  • Loaded up credits in June to try out the $3 migration feature since I didn't want another LAX VPS when the forced SJ migration happened. The paid migration to Tokyo was "successful", but there was no IP change, VNC shows whatever server it is pointing to can't connect to the default gateway, and the ticket I made for this issue was last responded to by AI on 6/14/26 stating that further technical review might be necessary if its attempts at fixing the problem didn't work (spoiler: they didn't work).
I'm sure there's a lot on @VirMach's plate, but just thought I'd leave this here for reference.

    Hi!
There is any update with AMSD017 node? One of my VPS affected also. - @VirMach

    +1
AMSD017 outage affected VPS looks like comes with a "free migration option", but the list is empty for me :)
It's a bug or a feature? or there is a 'trick' to solve it?

  • @FrankZ - SJCZ012 has been down since December 2025. Please see Ticket #162732 regarding my migration request. Thanks

Can I just say that I genuinely don't understand how VirMach has not deadpooled by now, like it just seems the business model is to have downtime and provide free extensions.

Or is it maybe just looking like that from the outside.

:astonished: When I read the deadpool blog posts, I was surprised not to see VirMach in one of them.

 There are, and I have one, systems that have fallen on hard times in the past, but which racked up more reasonable stable time.
 I suspect that some lucky systems have not fallen on hard times, and therefore have not needed maintenance or free extensions.
:anguished: As issues with a web host are approaching two or more years of hard times, it is harder and harder to believe Virmach has not deadpooled.

:expressionless: There is talk of service extensions; I have generally not been granted extensions for downtime.

:mask: A huge "Virmache" began in 2020; that earned a reprieve. It's been a long time since 2020; the reprieve is over-extended.

:bleep_bloop: I probably would have moved on by now if it were not for the VPS that continues chugging along (for now), and, the fact that, for various reasons, and, personal attention, he began to seem like a good guy again, subsequent to losing a domain registration and another long term season of discontent. I will not pay another year for the web host if it isn't fixed before the bill comes up. If I do drop, it will burn a year's payment (which is more than the single-digit dollar deals), so, I feebly hope for a turnaround, but, it is looking more and more like one of :scream: those deadpool blogs :skull: fits.

    oops, yes my fault! @VirMach

@FrankZ - I need to thank you for telling us to mention you to CrunchBits. They finally unmarked my account for expiration and set me up on their new node. Took two years!

Right there with you on SJCZ008. Of course since VirBot's deals come with no support, individual tickets should not have the expectation of being answered. All of us with SJC VM's are on the same pending ticket. That said, it has been longer than normal, even for VirMach, so maybe it will be resolved soon™

CrunchBits aka Synteq are the best. I use them for all my production stuff in Spokane, Valley Forge, and Dallas. If you are looking for 99.9%+ uptime and fast support those are the ones to go with. It should also be noted that the year plus it took for the Crunchbits yearly specials in Valley Forge to upgrade were free and they stayed working the whole time. So how do you like that Xeon Platinum 8260 ?

Truth be told, if you have not been involved as a VirMach customer for at least 10 years, it is hard to understand.
Back in 2017 I stated on the OGF that VirMach is an experiment done in conjunction with the University of California sociology department started in 2013 to see what people would allow them selves to endure for a drastically under priced VPS. As time has gone on the VMs aka "The carrot" went from E5 OpenVZ to Ryzen KVM and the prices continued to drop while specs got better and better, aka @VirBot. At the same time extended down times were introduced and ticket response times got longer and longer and now are at the point where we can say tickets should not expect a response. As I said above, this lack of ticket support was stated up front by VirMach before anyone purchased a Virbot VM. The extended down times are part of the sociological experiment.
I don't expect deadpool until government funding is cut.
