You should stick with switches that support the same operating system, and develop your automation to configure every switch through its API rather than command line or configuration files.
We have success with SONiC switch operating system.
My collaborators were seen using RESTCONF protocol to configure their switches.
My first VirMach downtime - I’ll have to have a cold one to celebrate.

Out of interest, what are the brands being used here?

Let me make an @Virmach - alike answer here for ya: I am such a specialist of brands & switches, I could write a book about them! The fact is: I picked an old brand because it was a lot cheaper and better, I know I have to code a custom switch myself, it is on the to-do list. In reality: all of this is due to the wear & tear of the users: those idiots keep sending & receiving packets every nanoseconds, which creates a heat up of the IC, which then fails even before reaching its MTBF... All this to say: I don't care if you were offline, I won't spend what is required for a good switch, and now I will go code my next script: Fireworks Deals 2025~. And good luck trying to find the Debian 12 OS template from our control panel: there is none & I don't care!

If you don't want anything to be explained and it bothers you, just pretend I said "sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, completely my fault, sorry, I broke it, sorry. I was too busy getting distracted setting up a sale, if I had been there it wouldn't have happened, sorry, nothing occurred other than it being my fault, sorry."

We use Juniper. The reasoning being they were the most affordable at the time & we were somewhat familiar with Juneos. The provider we use wants to use Arista as they're more familiar and confident with them.

Debian 12 has been released for over a year but it is not listed as a VPS reinstall template. Is there a good reason it is missing?
Thanks.
SolusVM doesn't work well with it. They've tried and failed to create a fully functional template for it, and we're also running into problems. They've said it's a confirmed issue with templating on the operating system our host nodes run on (standard.) I've probably created several dozen templates that all end up having some strange issue.
What I'm going to try to do next is take their template and then fix it but I'd prefer not to do that since I don't know what other problems it may have...

Has anyone installed Debian 12 when we had it from SolusVM and worked out all the problems? Is it working for you to this day?
@JoeMerit said: @VirMach did the more knowledgeable tech go in this morning and fix it? is the new arista stuff in place?
Not that I know of, it seems like the most likely outcome is all my fiddling did something but only after I was frustrated and went to sleep. Then it magically decided to fix itself. Well, not that magical, what I was doing was supposed to have a positive effect so I guess it did but I don't really want to take the credit because I still don't really understand it much. Just very light educated guesses that wouldn't make it worse trying to get the communication between the switches to re-attempt and stick. I still take zero credit for anything that happened.
I haven't got a solid confirmation on whether or not anything was done on their end but it doesn't seem like it. That's why I'm looking into it further now and why the storage server is still offline (on purpose, it's what may have set everything off.)
Arista is not in place and no update on that. We just ordered it through our provider and there were delays. No ETA. I actually asked for another update because unless it's getting there in a week or two, I need to order in a third or fourth EX4300, but I'm personally leaning toward it not necessarily being hardware this time around (which is actually somewhat worse in my opinion, it means there's some weird configuration issue and I'm not the one who set it up.)
Edit - Confirmed, they didn't do anything on their end so the most likely things that happened (1) it decided to randomly break itself and fix itself, (2) my button mashing did something positive. Still investigating while we wait on their knowledgeable tech's availability to be provided.

Just talking out of turn here...
One of the reasons I expect hosts hold back from converting to Virtfusion is that VMs don't appear to migrate easily from SolusVM. Other providers that have made this migration have recreated my VMs, not migrated. I expect that, basically needing two separate billing panels while converting, and rewriting all the in-house code, would be a big ask of VirMach.
Maybe a separate brand would work. Virt-Mach, oh wait.
Peace on earth will come to stay, when we all live as LESbians every day.

if the nodes that went down which were eventually migrated/consolidated etc were shifted to VF....half of them would be on VF by now maybe?

It's not that hard to convert, I think most LE* providers are just too lazy/incompetent to put the effort in. I'd like to eventually see Virmach make the switch but I'm also not that offended by Solus anymore. It works for the most part and I don't hang out in the VPS management screen all day.

With IPv9 this would have never happened as it does automatic switch bypass if it detects them being faulty.

Good call on Juniper or Arista.
Could've been Brocade. I've nearly seen a network engineer nope out of a career over a Brocade edge router and weeks of hell.
