  • Some asshole is broadcasting from syncthing on the new PHX range. Why the hell does software get released with this default methodology? (Rhetorical.)

  • because it is made userfriendly that idiots can now just press a few things and it works, not worried about how it does it, it just does it.

Just making sure I understand. Are you railing against the injustice or is it actually causing you a problem?

Seen how often your syslog fills up, from your friendly neighbours?

    dmesg

    .

    up 3:09
    624K Jan 5 11:21 messages

I have to specifically deploy iptables rules, to limit the Load created by them, manually tailored per subnet etc.

right on ... wasn't passing judgement or anything. Just wanted to know. :) My default is DROP without a log so they don't fill up but I get where you're coming from.

It looks like this person has enabled (it's by default), the localAnnounceEnabled option in Syncthing:
"Whether to send announcements to the local LAN, also use such announcements to find other devices."

their system just wants to find friends, friends who send dirty twisted packets .. maybe they want to share shell access with their newfound friends? ;)

Uuuuhhhhhhh .... which OS? My logs disagree with this.

EDIT: Oh, likely because I have an explicit rule for dealing with invalid I believe.

    @skorous said: which OS?

    CentOS7/Alama8 with CSF

@skorous said: Oh, likely because I have an explicit rule for dealing with invalid I believe.

    Possibly.

    A typical snippet (multi-IP setup):

    ...
    /usr/sbin/iptables -I INPUT 3 -s 185.xxx.xxx.0/24 ! -d 185.xxx.xxx.174 -m comment --comment "Noisy neighbours" -j INVDROP
    /usr/sbin/iptables -I INPUT 4 -d 185.xxx.xxx.255 ! -s 185.xxxxxx.1 -m comment --comment "Noisy neighbours" -j INVDROP
    ...
    /usr/sbin/iptables -I INPUT 7 -d 255.255.255.255 -m comment --comment "Noisy neighbours" -j INVDROP

For embitterment's sake/revenge, I should really use REJECT but would just pressure the LAN further.

Oh aye, too big for just a nameserver, so I guess my only Washington client might like a site, or two, migrated there.. :)

Sorry, not went through whole thread so not sure if it is already addressed. Want to know if any one got back additional IP4 address which were taken back during Ryzen migration.

Yes, I heard that @AlwaysSkint and others got their extra IPv4 back. IIRC you had to ticket, but I have tagged him and we should wait for him to chime in before ticketing so he tells us what needs to go in the ticket.

This is the last mention of feature to request missing IP: https://lowendspirit.com/discussion/comment/101203#Comment_101203

Summary is that in October a button was added to create automated ticket and user could request either missing IP or discount. It had a bug because some people wanted IP but ticket said discount (I guess default value for choice was IP on form but it was discount in ticket creation). Button was removed to be fixed and @VirMach said he would ask people who had already used it if they would like to make a change.

My ticket is still open with no answer and I haven't closed it because @VirMach said we would get only once chance at the request

This ticket has been marked as completed by a member of our staff. This means your request has been fulfilled, and it has been closed.

It wasn't completed - note the Americanised date.
    Then..

    Hi,
As mentioned in LES, the previously (re-)assigned two IP addresses have vanished from the admin screens though appear to be still bound to the VM.

    etc.
    Once again, note the date.
Now that you've tagged Virmach, you may get an indication of what to do next, perhaps directly related to your particular situation.
