You can host two SSL websites for Windows XP computers or Android 2.0 smartphones.
These platforms do not support SNI (Server Name Indication), so that each website must be hosted on a separate IP address.

Despite being on the same server you could run 2x NS servers (because you have 2x diff IPs) then you can setup your domains to use them~. Talking about this: some registrars do not care if the IPs are different (they just want different hostnames), while others will check if they resolve to the same IP address.

The other use case I encountered was to avoid a throttle per IP address, with an additional IP your APP can switch to use the first IP, then the second one, then the first, etc.

Potentially you could also run another container with the full TCP ports range [1-65535] without NAT/port mapping (so you can use SSH on port 22 on that other IP as if it was a completely different server).

There's some upcoming changes I'd like to unofficially communicate here first. I'm listing them in their probable order. None of them have been fully confirmed, it's possible plans may change.

LAX - LAXA030 and LAXA031 will be physically moved and also have IPv4 addresses changed.

NYC - NYCB011 and NYCB017 are likely going to be retired and will move elsewhere.

AMS - We have some servers sharing 1x /24 per two and then when Frankfurt got moved in, the servers kept 1x /24 per server. We're going to try to change it to where it's three servers per 2x /24. The focus will be on keeping everyone's IP address the same so what will happen is there will be some migrations.

NYC & LAX - If you purchased a special with multiple IP addresses, a few of you may be moved around (nothing crazy.) If your IP is on a /25 then the IP address may change or may move (or it might not move or change, but the gateway might change to a /26.)

CHI - CHIZ001, CHIZ002, CHIZ003, and CHIZ004 will have a series of migrations and potentially IP changes. If possible, they'll first be consolidated to two servers (then if not, IP changes.) CHIZ004 is going to be retired.

TYO - A lot will happen here. We're going to be adding in at least another network switch, and bring the other new servers online. There will likely be a physical migration to another datacenter to address the inbound connectivity issue (@tulipyun) as well as some other things, and I'll likely attempt to make another visit there. Some migrations (between servers) and we'll try to avoid any IP changes. We'll also be trying to wrap up all the other Tokyo things we talked about in the past.

ATL - Likely will have more servers sent out to this location to fill it out. We might also make a small little storage server, but it might just end up being for our own backups. I'll likely be visiting and organizing everything. No current planned shuffling. Less than zero percent chance that we might instead close out this location instead and open a new one nearby. But close to zero.

SJC - This location needs to be completely re-racked/organized. I'll have to visit. We had to make it work with whatever Dedipath left us and I'm not happy with how none of the original San Jose servers have their original rails anymore. There's a high likelihood of IPv4 addresses requiring another set of changes so if that's the case I'll try to line everything up together, but as it stands there's no planned IP change here.

LAX/SJC - There will likely be an expansion in one of these locations. We're also looking at bringing back one other location.

physically moved where? outside of LA?

TYO - We'll also be trying to wrap up all the other Tokyo things we talked about in the past.

you mean 10Gbps port speed? IPv6 that were talked about 2 years ago?

I can hardly push UL/DL speed to 800Mbps/thread from SJC in general. Worst of all is SJCZ018 where 300Mbps is the max I can get

Can we have a paid migration addon? Limited to same continent maybe?

Same cabinet or cabinet next to it. We technically don't need to have it moved, it's just my OCD. Los Angeles was one of the locations I had a good part in so I just want to continue keeping it organized.

@ususk said: you mean 10Gbps port speed? IPv6 that were talked about 2 years ago?

These would be parts of it but there's other steps these two things you mentioned would involve.

@ususk said: I can hardly push UL/DL speed to 800Mbps/thread from SJC in general. Worst of all is SJCZ018 where 300Mbps is the max I can get

That would unfortunately not be related to the rails or potentially changing IPv4.

@ususk said: Can we have a paid migration addon? Limited to same continent maybe?

This is planned but it's been planned for a long time, I don't want to disappoint you so I'll confidently say within the next 10 years. For flash specials, if released, it would be later on as it's more complicated and we need to make sure we also move you to a node with similar resource levels. So I can promise that within the next 20 years.

IP renumbering even when it's within LA? Also out of all upstream providers why did you choose purple daddy's ex-employer that also has a bad mix

Too bad SJC has a good network mix but seemingly much more congested than QN. Switch/router issue?

Shouldn't the new location has more empty space than any other locations in the beginning?

@ususk said: IP renumbering even when it's within LA?

The physical move of the server is the part that's not technically required. The IP address change is required.

@ususk said: Also out of all upstream providers why did you choose purple daddy's ex-employer that also has a bad mix

Many reasons. I don't perfectly recall, but I'd imagine it was a mix of the following, with some of it definitely being in hindsight:

    • They weren't annoying to deal with (for LAX) and were able to provide a quote for exactly what we requested
    • They didn't steal our equipment or have weird contracts/people working for them
    • They actually were good enough to where we kept adding servers to the cabinet instead of taking them away so they naturally became the one out of three providers we obviously kept in LAX. All they had to do was nothing to beat out the competition.
    • Convenient location at the time. Still a convenient location, right next to the airport. Not a PITA to visit.
    • Appropriate pricing, especially very appropriate hands rate, and accommodating/competent.
    • Same company as what we previously technically used in LAX, just direct.
    • Actually a better network for where it really mattered when tested (to Los Angeles, and other nearby locations.) And they were willing to make some adjustments for us (in LAX) to their "DDoS Protection."

They also offer a better mix. We didn't get it. More optimized for Asia is pretty much the main difference. If enough customers want it, start a petition, once we see more than half of the people in LAX likely want it, then we can do that and then raise prices for everyone to cover the added cost.

@ususk said: Too bad SJC has a good network mix but seemingly much more congested than QN. Switch/router issue?

No, provider issue. Not really an issue, just their policy. That's one of the benefits of purple daddy's ex-employer, they let you get exactly what was requested as I mentioned. They're charging for 95th traffic and don't have a cap on burst. San Jose does, if we wanted to increase the burst we had to increase the 95th past what was required. Actually they also still made us get a higher 95th than we required as well because they had minimums too.

Also I can't even replicate your issue, but I'm assuming what you said is correct and sometimes it may only be 300Mbps from the shared port in some specific scenarios. The only concerning part is if it's actually the maximum (assuming you're testing to nearby) and you got much lower most the time.

I mean I can "replicate" 300Mbps but to... London. Otherwise 550-800Mbps range in the US.

@ususk said: Shouldn't the new location has more empty space than any other locations in the beginning?

This isn't how flash sales work. Think of the new location as a new game of Tetris. Sure we could just put in any piece anywhere since it's empty. What happens 30 seconds later in the game?
