Is this too good a deal?
I don't understand much about the web3 and blockchain related domains. But I just saw this ad from unstoppabledomains (through brave, they have a .brave domain that costs $5), and I want to know if the offer is too good to be true.
Here's the offer:
Domains for $2, Ownership for life.
It's the second part I'm interested in. I could get behind 1 year free; I have taken advantage of porkbun, dynadot and namecheap deals.
But how would ownership for life work, if it does work at all. Thanks

Blockchain domains can't be used in any normal way as far as I know, they're NFTs or something. So no normal person will be able to resolve them
Seems likely that the numbers domains are closest you're gonna get. They're a dollar a year. 12345678.xyz basically. Got myself one that I can easily remember for dev stuff
Other option is porkbun renewal deals. Some of their domains have renewal sales so you can buy 10 years @ say 7 dollars each. Not lifetime and at 70 not exactly cheap, but 10 years is a long time in interwebs time
Yeah, they're effectively a different animal than the DNS everyone is used to. At least with Handshake domains ( a different blockchain dns ) you can use them like domain names but only with specialized software so you're right that no normal person will resolve them. I've played with it a bit, it's kinda fun to be able to type: ping www.110bps ( 110bps is the TLD ) and have it actually respond.
Getting back to the original question:
No, if you understand what you're buying
Open your hosts file, add entry like:
And save.
Now you can access http://lowendlife/ and it'll go the server on the ip you specifed.
Handshake/crypto/NFT domains are like that. Once you set it up, YOU can access it, but almost everyone else cant. So if you feel like trying out some cutting edge service, go for it. It may work out like bitcoin (crypto money) or just fizzle out like NFTs.
Never make the same mistake twice. There are so many new ones to make.
It’s OK if you disagree with me. I can’t force you to be right.
Blockchain domains do not resolve publicly like normal domains. Some special software is needed, or specially configured DNS resolvers.
For example for Handshake domains one could use the public DNS resolvers provided by HDNS.
Please stop the planet! I wish to get off!
